Narture’ is a father and daughter collaboration between Saskia and Robert Singer, that has now attracted a collective of artists and keen local interest to develop the project towards a sustainable future. An experimental bakery/kitchen has been set up in the historic quarter of Ayr, where we bake real bread to earn the dough to fund arts projects at our new studio/gallery – DOUGH at 22 Sandgate (Old Tourist Information Office), adjacent to the bakery. We use our loaves to explore the wider issues surrounding our food production & supply systems through the lens of contemporary arts.
Straddling the boundaries of art, science, gastronomy and economy; ‘Narture’ will enable our collective of young emerging and established artists to critically investigate food as art during a year-long artist in residency programme where the artists will explore their creative visions through a socially-engaged programme of participatory arts and how this can function as a regenerative force for town centres
This cross-pollination of artists with local people, aims to reconnect taste with place; encouraging the public to play with food in creative workshops; take part in critical dialogues and learn new skills/ideas about food & art in order to co-create a space where the studio is kitchen, kitchen is laboratory and laboratory is gallery.
