Saskia Singer was born in 1995 in Ayr, Scotland and lives and works between Glasgow and Ayr. She graduated from Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2019.
Collaboration is integral to Saskia’s multifaceted socially engaged practice, initiating a project called ‘Dain Hing’s’ whilst at DJCAD, hosting a number of exhibitions, workshops, residencies and events, bringing people together ‘tae dae hing’s’.
Dain Hings opened the Artist Network Assembly in 2019 with a workshop, focusing on the necessity of artists’ communities collaborating. Saskia and her artist father recently set up an experimental bakery/kitchen/gallery; Narture in Ayr, exploring food as art and baking real bread to earn the dough to fund arts projects. Fusing food and arts as a sustainable income source, that benefits local people’s participation in cultural activities, with a core concern of creative education and professionalising the arts, she is an executive member of the Scottish Artists union. Saskia has been revisiting her printmaking into edible art for Artists Tuckshop, Make Bake Cook Book, using molecular gastronomy and 3D food printing, exploring sensorial interactions with food.
Currently Saskia is working with Tinderbox Lab and Scribble Live (National Galleries), creating electronics sound and art kits for children, constantly thinking of new ways to blend, visual art, sound and food together to create immersive experiences.
